Our proposals for the National Pavilion of Mexico at the Expo Milano 2015 celebrates the theme “Feeding the world, Energy for Life”. Mexico’s food and gastronomy stand amongst the most prominent universally. We are inspired by the sustainability and technological innovation of our pre-Hispanic civilizations, the culinary transformation of the colonial time and the ongoing challenges that migration and the rescue of our traditions represent today. Our proposal is based on a semi-open pavilion, a large Belvedere open towards the Expo, in which exhibition spaces are accommodated to display the diversity and authenticity of food products from Mexico based on the cycle cultivation-processing-distribution-consumption. This highly sustainable, monumental structure prefabricated in cross-laminated wood is clad with a combination of trombe-wall and sunshade membrane systems.

Competition 1st Prize | In Design Development 2016
Our competition winning project for the High School campus at The John F. Kennedy American School Queretaro comprises a 170,000 sq ft academic complex along with 110,000 sq ft of external sports and landscaped areas.
Our concept is based on the idea of a PORTICO as a veil, mediating between of public space in this diverse academic campus.
In this way, the proposed 4-storey pre-cast concrete structure is planned around a PATIO, which organises and visually connects the larger elements of the programme at Ground Level: a 400-seat theatre, a 500-seat sports arena, science & technology laboratories, an arts atelier, multi-purpose halls and a large cafeteria. Classrooms and academic administrative offices are equally organized around the central courtyard in the upper levels. The consolidation of all outdoor sports facilities in front of the building allows for an external pedestrian corridor to be created, forming a much needed connection with between parking areas and the rest of the campus. We propose a 140m-long faceted PORTICO along this landscape walkway, providing shelter whilst visually mediating between the openness of the extensive sports facilities and the intimate scale of the patio.
Emergent Design Studios + RVdG were shortlisted alongside 8 distinguished Mexican firms for this project and were awarded the 1st prize and project commission in March 2016. The project is currently under Design Development with a start on site expected in 2017.
